On November 6th Ohio voters will be asked to vote “Yes on Issue 2"
Voters First, the citizens group pushing to change the way Ohio draws its voting districts will see the issue on the November ballot as Issue 2.
Needing the signatures of 385,253 registered voters to get the imitative on the ballot, Council 8
members help circulate petitions that put Voters First over the top with 767,000 signatures.
“I don’t think it’s a coincidence that Republicans made this Issue 2 on the fall ballot,” said Council 8 Political and Legislative Director Robert Davis. "Last year we urged Ohioans to 'vote no on Issue 2'. This time around we will be asking them to 'vote yes on Issue 2'.
According to Davis, the new Issue 2 is critical to Ohio’s future. The proposal takes the once every ten year map-drawing job away from elected officials, and puts it in the hands of an independent 12-person citizen commission. This commission will create fair district boundaries in a process that is open and accountable to the people of Ohio.
“This is about power and we know the politicians and their cronies will say and do anything to protect that power,” Davis said. “The November ballot will be a long one, so it is critical we make sure our sisters and brothers don’t stop after voting for President Obama and Senator Sherrod Brown,” he said.
