Burris Appointed to OPERS Board

State Treasurer Richard Cordray has appointed Eva Burris to the Ohio Public Employees Retirement System Board of Trustees.

Starting in 1987, Burris served Ohio Council 8's Youngstown Region as a staff representative. In 1992, she was appointed Regional Director, a post she held until 2000, when she left AFSCME. Burris went on to serve as Court Administrator of the Mahoning County Court of Common Pleas Juvenile Division. She retired from the court in 2005.

“I’m sure that Ms. Burris’ background and distinguished career give her a strong sense of responsibility for the pension benefits and health care coverage of Ohio’s active and retired public employees,” said Cordray.

“I am committed to making sure OPERS continues to be one of the nation’s strongest and best managed retirement systems. I also hope to help educate public employees on the necessity of financial planning and the need to pay attention to institutions like OPERS, which has a profound influence on our lives,” Burris said.

Burris joins other labor leaders on the 11-member OPERS Board including Ohio Council 8 Trustee Helen Youngblood from Youngstown, Ohio University AFSCME Local 1699 Recording Secretary Kimberly Dickerson-Russell, OCSEA President Eddie Parks, CWA leader Cynthia Sledz, and OPERS Board Chairman Ken Thomas, a former Council 8 Dayton Regional Vice President.
