At-Large Regional Vice Presidents Elected

Asyia Haile and Ella Hopkins have been elected to the Council 8 Executive Board to represent members of AFSCME’s regional child care provider unions.

Haile of Columbus, is president of AFSCME Local 4025 which represents 700 union members in the Columbus Region.  Ella Hopkins of Cincinnati, is president of AFSCME Local 4023 representing 775 members in the Cincinnati Region.

“Asyia and Ella are respected professionals and have earned the support of their union sisters and brothers,” said Council 8 President John A. Lyall.  “We welcome them as valued new members to the Council 8 Executive Board.”

In 2009, delegates to the 18th Biennial Ohio Council 8 Convention in Cincinnati voted to create two at-large vice presidents to represent the union’s in-home child care providers.  Since that time, AFSCME has chartered local unions which have elected officers and negotiated their first contract with the state.

In June, the state and Ohio Council 8 implemented a negotiated dues check-off provision.  With the collection of union dues, child care providers are now AFSCME members in good standing which met the requirements necessary to hold the election.
