AFSCME Power In Action AFSCME Power In Action is the leading political and legislative organization for public employees and public service providers in local school districts, cities, counties, universities, hospitals and communities across Ohio. It is a joint program between AFSCME Ohio Council 8 and AFSCME Retiree Chapter 1184, representing more than 55,000 active members and retirees. AFSCME Power In Action’s top priority is to enable AFSCME members to determine their future at work and at home through political and legislative grass roots action. AFSCME Power In Action has the experience and credibility to work effectively with state legislators, members of Congress and local elected officials to protect and expand the rights of working families and individuals. However, no one can represent workers better than the workers themselves – that’s why AFSCME Power In Action stresses the involvement of rank-and-file members in our union’s political and legislative efforts. Local union members participate through AFSCME Power In Action’s Area PEOPLE Committees (APCs). Each of the 18 APCs across the state is comprised of two table officers, staff and member delegates. Through these APCs, our members are directly involved in grass roots political activities including local candidate recruitment, screening and endorsement. AFSCME Power In Action equips local union political activists with the skills they need to meet one-on-one and develop relationships with candidates and elected officials to effectively communicate the concerns of working families and individuals. Our work is also done through individual workplace communications and our online web tool. |
